– Now we are doing repairs in the Leisure Center, the future theater hall will accommodate about two hundred spectators, – says Natalia Shchanikova, head of the development department of the resort. – It is planned that the first theatrical season will be held at the resort from May 25 to May 29. Folk and amateur theaters will be invited to participate. We have already received about six applications, including the Novgorod Gesture Theater decided to participate in the first theatrical season. Guests from Pskov and Luga are also expected. In total, we plan to present 7-10 productions to the public. We hope that the next theatrical season after the current one will be more ambitious.
In parallel with the organization of the resort theater, the management of the resort plans to show film adaptations of theatrical plays of iconic theaters in Russia.
Recall that since 1828, the Staraya Russa resort has been famous for its cultural traditions. Every year the imperial orchestra was sent here for the summer season, and in 1866, according to Benoit's project, a theater was built, which marked the beginning of the rich theatrical events of the city. The names of famous theater actors are associated with the resort theater: Maria Savina – for six seasons Maria Gavrilovna played more than thirty roles here, Andreeva, Mikhailovsky and, of course, Vera Komissarzhevskaya.
